The Background

The Health Networks of WA are focused on collaborative health care planning for the whole community and have developed over 60 evidenced based models of care and policy frameworks. The Leads Forum brings together clinical leads from each of these networks to focus on developing policy recommendations for whole of system improvement.

The Challenge

Helping 30 plus Clinical Leads (representative for their Health Network e.g. Renal) reach consensus on their agreed direction as a common forum presents a serious challenge. Doing this in under 2 hours doesn’t leave much wriggle room. The clients needed a tight, fat free strategic planning process.

The Solution

We worked with support staff to design a process that built on the work the Forum had previously undertaken in meetings and online surveys. We then designed a series of focus questions and prioritisation exercises that participants responded to, in pairs via iPads. This allowed for a range of individual input that honoured the representational structure of the Forum whilst also providing discussion points for the wider group to find consensus. We even managed to work a tea break into the 2 hours.

The Results

In under 2 hours, the Forum identified a range of priority principles, agreed on the purpose of the Forum, proposed objectives for the group and commented on a suggested structure for the meetings. We provided a graphic Communications Report within 24 hrs that listed the consensus and a more detailed Outcomes Report further down the track. Happy days.
